EMP Kor was on top of his game last night which meant trouble for the field of 20 who participated in our 4th Tekken Tag Tournament 2 tournament. He lost only one match all night en route to his third Tekken title at Insomnia winning 3-0 over Storm of Kicks. Speaking of Storm, he was the winner of the bounty ($20 to the first player to knock an OG out of the tournament) but loser of the money match FT3 between him and OG NeoX. All in all it was a very fun night! Congrats again!

Smash Brothers powerhouse BC applied those skills en route to winning our first PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale tournament! He took down a modest but competitive field of 12 with his Kratos- taking out his brother (another awesome Smash player) Matt in the process. After the 4 man free-for-alll tournament we would run a 1v1 tournament and Matt would get his revenge! All in all, a really fun night! Congrats again!

Rubeks made it two out of three Insomnia Marvel titles to start the year by taking down past champ Buckethead! Buckethead who was dropped into Losers by Sinx (3rd) in a 3-0 upset, battled back taking out AB Jan (4th) 3-1 and getting his revenge on Sinx 3-1. He then reset the bracket going 3-0 on Rubeks, but Rubeks regained his composure and closed it out 3-2 to take the title back! This tournament was a little light on competitors because of the crazy storm that rolled through and flooded roads, but it still featured strong performances by Weegee (7th), Joey H. (7th), Gabriel (5th) and Stark (5th). Can't wait for the next one- congrats again!

Andy's Black Adam was just too much for the competition at our first Injustice tournament. The week-one tournament saw 42 total entrants and our biggest pay out of the year! Andy had to run the gauntlet of Kombat Houston opponents as he beat Showtime's Deathstoke, then LumberZach's Harley Quinn, followed by Cat's Joker in Winners Finals. Cat would get a second chance as he beat Andy's brother Tyrone (who played Aquaman) in Losers Finals before losing again to Andy 3-0 in Grand Finals. Andy actually didn't drop a single match all night en route to victory! Congrats to our first (and definitely not last) Injustice tournament winner!

Kid Viper made some personal history by winning his first Insomnia title last night and made Insomnia history by becoming the first person to win two tournaments on one night! I considered making two entries for this feat, but thought it was better highlighted this way. In Persona, he came back to beat Miku (aka Shugo Tenshi) from Losers bracket, going 3-1 then 3-2 to earn the win. In BlazBlue, he was undefeated all night, eventually beating GG's Ghostbear 3-0 in Winners Finals and then 3-2 in Grand Finals. Congrats!

Can anyone stop this guy?! MMS Hunted Chimera won his second consecutive Street Fighter title and his second straight title overall (SFxT last weekend) by surviving a field of 25. After being sent to the very unfamiliar Losers bracket by past champ Four Wude, Chimera battled back defeating fellow Fei Long player WT|Ragdu, and then reset the bracket on Four Wude 3-0, before taking the final set 3-1. I guarantee we'll see this matchup again around Houston for a long time to come! Congrats again!

We all found out the hard way that MMS Hunted Chimera doesn't just play AE! He massacred the smaller field of competitors to add another Insomnia championship to his resume dropping only two matches in the process. He went 3-1 to send EX Jermaine to losers bracket in Winners Finals and when he saw him again in Grand Finals, it went down the same way. Congrats again!

KH Cat found himself in a familiar place as did KH Lumberzach- Grand Finals. After putting Lumberzach in losers 3-1, Cat sealed the deal going 3-1 again en route to another Insomnia title, this time with the added bonus of sponsored spot in Texas Showdown in April courtest of Insomnia! Also making strong showings was KH Royale (3rd) and Birdwatcher (4th). Congrats again!

Gene took home that cash after battling through a HUGE field of 40 players! Along the way he knocked off past winners AB Jan (4th) and Rubeks (2nd) in Grand Finals. Also making strong showings were AvG JDog (3rd) who had the upset of the night beating Jan, as well as Sylint, Sinx, Spiderbro and Big Chris. It was really an awesome showing and an overwhelming turnout for our first Marvel tournament on xbox! As you can see, that boy Gene is a little camera shy so we snapped a shot of his reserved chair and O.Red eyeballing the cash in the chair! Congrats again!

Oscar made it two straight by never losing in this field of 30! Entrants included brothers B.C. (2nd) and Matt F. (3rd) along with past winner Fliphop who had to make an early exit and really came out to support the scene! A lot of new faces from previous Brawl tournaments made a second appearance and leveled up as well- always good to see! Congrats again!

Bernie won his first solo Insomnia title last night! After losing in the Semifinals he came back and placed first to save himself and reset the bracket before winning in thrilling fashion as all 3 competitors finished with the same amount of kills! By virtue of having the least deaths, Bernie took first over the always awesome Rockin Turtle (2nd) and Scar Tactics (3rd). Congrats!

Three Mario Kart tournaments and Bon has won 'em all! He was actually our very first champ ever, winning Mario Kart back on opening day in 2011! This time the field was a little smaller and we were running 4 at a time for the first time, which was a lot of fun. He beat runner up Weegee after having the bracket reset in the first match. He'll be eating hot dogs and green tea treats off of us for the next two months with that credit! Congrats!

A storybook ending indeed on Sunday as Shini went out on top in Tetris! Our first female champ and multiple time Tetris winner, Shini is moving away to Pennsylvania with husband Scott so we through her a goodbye party / Tetris Tournament! She defeated a field of 16 including an epic showdown with Alwyn in Grand Finals! Congrats and we'll miss you guys!

MIkko battled through a field of 21 competitors in our biggest Persona tournament to date! Although he had won few random select tournaments in the past, this is Mikko's first proper Insomnia title as he defeated Kid Viper (2nd) and two-time champ Shugo Tenshi (3rd) to earn it! Also competing were Kensou (4th), Sebastian, Azure Rage, Noobster and Bielzebro to round out the Top 8 respectively. Congrats again and it's great to see this scene grow!

Kensou was pulling double duty participating in our Persona 4 Tournament as well, but that didn't stop him from racking up another Insomnia title- this time in King of Fighters XIII! En route to victory, he battled through a field of 16 which included heavy weights Raph (2nd) and Tofu Soup (3rd), Marvel champ Rubeks, and even a couple of dudes who made the drive out from San Antonio (shoutouts to the 210!)! Congrats again!

Tournament veteran Christian won his first Insomnia title, defeating some big competition in the process. He knocked off past winners Edward Z. and Daniel M. and the always tough Isaac to come back from the Losers  bracket and take the cash! Congrats!

Newcomer Hunted Chimera burst onto the scene at Insomnia grabbing the first Street Fighter title of the year! The smaller-than-usual field of 21 still consisted of some strong competition including AB Jan (2nd), Bagels (3rd), Reach, Word and BeastChan23! Ultimately, Chimera's Fei Long was too much for Jan to handle as he beat him in both Winners Finals and Grand Finals. Great tournament all in all, and we look forward to the next one! Congrats again to all the winners!

Rubeks becomes our first UMvC3 champ of 2013 by knocking off heavy weight AB Jan after Jan reset the bracket in Grand Finals. The field was deep and a lot of Houston players have really leveled up their game. Among the 35 man bracket was Sylint (3rd), AvG J-Dog (4th), AvG Mikko (5th), O.Red, Swagner, Synx and AJ from Austin. It was a great tournament to kick off the new year and congrats again to all the winners!

KH Showtime becomes our first champ of 2013 facing some really stiff competition along the way. He outlasted a field of 26 including KH Cat (2nd) and KH Shanxter (3rd), along with 5 other members of the Kombat Houston crew. Cat had sent him to Losers but Showtime battled back, taking two sets and winning the first Insomnia tournament of 2013! Shout out to Tar Nasty, Thee Odinson, Yatchinator and MKO Temp for making the long drive out to compete as well!
